Connecting Bluesky to Goji

Bluesky is an open, fast-growing network, and it is one of the friendliest to connect: no application review, no developer account, and a proper mechanism for giving a tool limited access. That mechanism is called an app password, and it is the only thing you need.

What connecting Bluesky gives you

• Automatic posts. Each new article is posted to your timeline with a link card showing the headline, summary and picture.
• Your own handle. Posts come from your account exactly as if you had written them there.
• Revocable access. Because you connect with an app password rather than your real one, you can withdraw access at any moment without changing how you sign in.

Before you start

You need a Bluesky account and one minute inside its settings. You do not need a developer account, and you should never use your ordinary account password to connect any tool — including this one.

How to create an app password

1. Open Bluesky, in the app or at bsky.app, and sign in.
2. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords.
3. Choose Add app password and give it a name you will recognise later, such as "Goji".
4. Bluesky shows the password once. Copy it now — it cannot be shown again, though you can always delete it and make another.

Naming it after the tool matters more than it looks: when you have several app passwords, the name is the only way to tell which one to revoke.

How to connect it in Goji

1. Open Channels and choose Bluesky.
2. Enter your handle — the full one, such as yourname.bsky.social.
3. Paste the app password, not your account password.
4. Save. Goji signs in immediately so a mistake is caught on the spot.

What Bluesky posts look like

Bluesky posts are short, so Goji uses the headline and a trimmed summary, then attaches the article as a link card. The card carries the picture and title, which is what makes the post look deliberate rather than automated. Articles without a picture still post; the card simply shows the title alone.

If something goes wrong

• Sign-in failed. Nine times in ten the account password was used instead of an app password. Create an app password and try again.
• The handle was not recognised. Enter the whole handle including the domain part. If you use a custom domain as your handle, use that.
• Posting stopped. The app password was deleted in Bluesky's settings — by you or by someone with access to the account. Create a new one and reconnect.

Common questions

Is an app password less safe than my real one? It is considerably safer. It cannot change your account details, it cannot be used to sign in to the website, and you can revoke it alone.

Can I connect more than one Bluesky account? Yes. Create an app password in each account and connect them separately.

Does it post threads? No — one post per article, with a link card.

Can I withdraw access later? Yes: delete the app password in Bluesky, or disconnect the channel in Goji. Either stops it.
