Connecting Buffer to Goji

If you already run your social posting through Buffer, you do not have to move. Connecting Buffer to Goji means new articles are added to your Buffer queue, and Buffer publishes them to whichever accounts you have set up there, on the schedule you have already tuned.

What connecting Buffer gives you

• Your schedule, kept. Posts go into the queue rather than out immediately, so Buffer's posting times still apply.
• Every account Buffer has. Anything connected in Buffer can receive articles, without connecting each one to Goji separately.
• One place for approvals. If your team reviews posts in Buffer before they go out, that habit is unchanged.

Before you start

You need a Buffer account with at least one social account connected, and an access token from Buffer's developer area. The token is what lets Goji add posts to your queue.

How to get the token

1. Sign in to Buffer in a browser.
2. Open Buffer's developer site and create an application — a name and your website address are enough.
3. Buffer issues an access token for your own account. Copy it.

The token acts on your Buffer account, so keep it private. If it leaks, delete the application in Buffer and the token stops working.

How to connect it in Goji

1. Open Channels and choose Buffer.
2. Paste the access token.
3. Save. Goji asks Buffer which profiles the token can reach, so you will see straight away whether it worked.

How posting works

Each new article is added to your Buffer queue with its headline, summary and link. Buffer then publishes it at the next slot in your posting schedule for each profile. That means a post may appear minutes or hours after the article — this is Buffer working as intended, not a delay in Goji.

Because Buffer decides the final format for each network, a post may look slightly different on each one. Buffer's own rules about images and link previews apply.

If something goes wrong

• The token is rejected. It was copied incompletely, or the application was deleted in Buffer. Create it again.
• Articles queue but never publish. The queue is paused in Buffer, or that profile has no posting times set. Both are Buffer settings.
• Only some profiles receive posts. Buffer's own plan limits which profiles it will post to. Check your Buffer plan.

Choosing what Buffer should handle

The most common mistake here is connecting the same network twice - once directly to Goji and once through Buffer - which posts every article to it twice. Decide per network which route owns it. A useful split is to let Buffer handle the networks whose timing you care about, because that is what its schedule is for, and connect the rest directly so they publish the moment an article appears.

It is also worth checking which profiles the token can actually reach before you rely on it. Goji lists them when you save, and a profile missing from that list is almost always one that was added to Buffer after the token was created, or one your Buffer plan does not cover.

Common questions

Should I connect Facebook to Goji as well as Buffer? Choose one route per network, or the same article will be posted twice — once by Goji directly and once by Buffer.

Can I edit a post before it goes out? Yes. It sits in your Buffer queue until its slot, and you can edit or remove it there.

Does this need a paid Buffer plan? Buffer's own limits apply to how many profiles and queued posts you may have.
