Connecting Medium to Goji

Updated Aug 28, 2026

Medium puts your writing in front of readers who would never find your site on their own. The risk with republishing anywhere is that the copy competes with the original in search results. Connecting Medium through Goji handles that for you: every story is published with a canonical link pointing back to your site, which tells search engines which version is the original.

What connecting Medium gives you

  • Automatic republishing. Each new article becomes a Medium story with its title, body and picture.
  • A canonical link. Your own site stays the authoritative copy in search results.
  • Draft or publish. Stories can go live immediately or wait as drafts so you can add publication-specific touches.
  • A new audience. Medium's own recommendation system can surface your work to readers who have never heard of you.

Before you start

You need a Medium account and an integration token from Medium's settings. The token lets Goji create stories on your behalf; it does not let it read your account or follow anyone.

How to get the token

  1. Sign in to Medium in a browser.
  2. Open Settings → Security and apps → Integration tokens.
  3. Enter a description you will recognise later, such as "Goji", and create the token.
  4. Copy it. Medium shows it in full, but treat it like a password.

You can revoke that token from the same screen at any time, which immediately stops anything using it.

How to connect it in Goji

  1. Open Channels and choose Medium.
  2. Paste the integration token.
  3. Choose whether stories should be published or created as drafts.
  4. Save. Goji verifies the token with Medium as you save.

A word on republishing well

Republishing works best when the original is already live on your own site, so the canonical link points somewhere real. Publishing to Medium first and your site later inverts that, and search engines will treat Medium as the original.

Many people also prefer to publish as drafts, then add a Medium-specific opening paragraph before releasing the story. That small amount of manual work usually earns considerably more attention there.

If something goes wrong

  • The token is rejected. It was copied incompletely or revoked in Medium's settings. Create a new one.
  • Stories appear without formatting. Medium supports a subset of HTML. Complex layouts and embeds are simplified.
  • Nothing appears on my profile. The channel is set to create drafts — look under your Medium drafts.

What Medium does with your formatting

Medium renders a deliberately narrow set of formatting, and knowing which parts survive saves disappointment. Headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, code blocks, images and links all come across. Tables, custom HTML, embedded widgets and anything relying on your own stylesheet do not, and are either simplified or dropped.

The practical advice is to keep republished articles structurally simple, and to put anything visual that will not survive - a comparison table, an interactive chart - on your own site, where the canonical link is already pointing readers.

Common questions

Will Medium outrank my own site? Not when the canonical link is set, which it always is here.

Can I publish into a Medium publication? Stories are created on your personal profile; a publication editor can then add them.

Can I delete a story later? Yes, in Medium. Removing it there does not affect your site.

Does Medium pay for this? Medium's own partner programme rules apply to your account, not to how the story was posted.
