Connecting Blogger to Goji

Blogger is Google's own blogging service, and it is still a straightforward way to keep a second home for your writing without maintaining a site. Connecting it to Goji means each new article is published there as a post, with its picture and labels, without you copying anything by hand.

Before you start

You need a Google account with at least one Blogger blog on it, and you must be an author or administrator of that blog. If you have never created one, do that first at Blogger — it takes a minute and costs nothing.

How to connect it

1. Open Channels from the sidebar and choose Blogger.
2. Sign in with the Google account that owns the blog. You are signing in to Google itself; Goji never sees your password.
3. Google asks whether to allow managing your Blogger blogs. Approve it.
4. Choose which blog to publish to, if the account has more than one.
5. You are returned to Goji with the blog connected.

What gets published

Each post carries the article's title, its body, and the featured image where there is one. Tags become labels. The post is published under the Google account you connected, so it appears as that author on the blog.

Publishing begins with the next article your rules pick up — existing articles are not posted retroactively, which keeps a new connection from flooding your blog with a back catalogue.

If something goes wrong

• No blogs are listed. The Google account you signed in with has no Blogger blog, or you signed in with a different account than you meant to. Sign out of Google and try again.
• Access stopped working. Google access can be revoked from your Google account's security page, and changing your Google password can end it too. Reconnect the channel.
• Posts have no picture. The article had no featured image. Add one on the source and the next post will carry it.

Keeping Blogger useful rather than duplicated

Blogger posts are indexed by Google like any other page, which is the point of using it and also the thing to be careful about. If the same text already exists on your own site, two pages now compete for the same search. Many people avoid that by treating Blogger as a summary channel: a short opening, the picture, and a clear link back to the full article.

Labels are worth setting deliberately for the same reason. Blogger has no categories, only labels, and they are how readers move between related posts on your blog. Article tags become labels automatically, so a few consistent tags on your source articles will build a genuinely navigable blog over time rather than a flat list.

Can I publish to more than one blog? Yes. Connect the channel again and choose the other blog.

Will this hurt my main site's SEO? Publishing the same text in two places is worth thinking about. If your own site is the original, consider posting a summary to Blogger with a link rather than the full text.

Can I edit a post afterwards? Yes, in Blogger, exactly like any other post.

Does it delete anything? No. Disconnecting stops future posts and leaves everything already published untouched.
