Connecting your Instagram account to Goji

Updated Aug 28, 2026

Instagram is the one channel you do not connect on its own. Instagram's business features are reached through the Facebook Page the account is linked to, so in Goji you connect the Page and Instagram arrives with it. That surprises people, so it is worth explaining properly.

What you get once Instagram is connected

  • Automatic posting. New articles publish to your Instagram feed with the article image and a caption built from the headline and summary.
  • Instagram Direct in your inbox. Direct messages arrive alongside your other conversations, and replies go back through Instagram.
  • No extra channel slot. An Instagram account that rides on a connected Page does not count against your plan's channel limit. Connect three Pages with three linked Instagram accounts and you have used three slots, not six.

Before you start

Instagram is strict here, and every requirement below comes from Instagram rather than from Goji:

  • The account must be a professional account — Business or Creator. A personal account cannot be connected at all.
  • It must be linked to a Facebook Page that you administer.
  • Every Instagram post needs an image. Instagram has no text-only post, so an article with no picture cannot publish there — it will publish to your other channels and be skipped on Instagram.

To switch an account over, open the Instagram app, go to Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account, and follow the prompts to link your Page.

How to connect it

  1. Link the Instagram account to your Facebook Page first, if you have not already.
  2. In Goji, open Channels and connect that Facebook Page.
  3. When Facebook asks for permissions, leave the Instagram ones enabled — those are what allow posting and Direct messages.
  4. Return to Goji. Instagram appears in your channel list next to the Page it came with.

What Instagram allows, and what it does not

Instagram's publishing rules are narrower than most channels, and knowing them saves a lot of confusion:

  • A post must have a picture; captions alone are not enough.
  • Links in captions are not clickable — Instagram never made them so. Your caption can still name your site, and the link in your bio remains the working route.
  • Instagram applies its own daily publishing limits. Ordinary business use is nowhere near them.

If something goes wrong

  • Instagram did not appear after connecting the Page. The account is not professional, or it is not linked to that Page. Fix it in the Instagram app, then run Check connection on the Page.
  • Some articles never reach Instagram. Those articles have no image. Add a featured image on your site and the next run will include them.
  • Direct messages are not arriving. Instagram must have messaging access permitted for connected tools; open the Instagram app and check that message access is allowed under privacy settings.

Common questions

Can I connect Instagram without Facebook? No. Instagram issues no separate business access, and there is no route that skips the Page.

Does it post Stories or Reels? Goji publishes feed posts. Stories and Reels are not part of automatic publishing.

Does it use one of my channel slots? No — see above. It rides on the Page's slot, which is why your channel count can be one higher than the number of slots your plan shows as used.
