Connecting OK (Odnoklassniki) to Goji

Odnoklassniki — usually written OK — is one of the largest social networks in Russian-speaking countries, and its groups behave much more like communities than like a personal feed. Connecting OK to Goji publishes each new article to your group automatically, as a group topic, so members see it in the place they already visit.

What connecting OK gives you

• Automatic group topics. Each new article is posted to your group with its headline, summary, picture and a link back to your site.
• Posted as the group. Topics appear under the group's name rather than your personal profile, which is what members expect from a business.
• A Russian-speaking audience. For businesses serving those markets, OK reaches people who use neither Facebook nor Instagram.
• One-click sign-in. You approve access with your OK account; there is no key to copy or store.

Before you start

Two things must be true before the connection will work, and both belong to OK rather than to Goji:

• You need a group. OK does not allow applications to publish to a personal profile, so a group is the destination in every case.
• You must be an administrator or moderator of that group with permission to create topics. If you are not, the group will simply not be offered when you connect.

If you have never created one, do that in OK first — it takes a couple of minutes, and a group is the correct home for a business there anyway. Give it a picture and a description before you start posting, because an empty-looking group converts very poorly.

How to connect it

1. Open Channels from the sidebar and choose OK (Odnoklassniki).
2. Sign in to OK when prompted. You are signing in to OK itself — Goji never sees your password.
3. Approve the permission to publish on your behalf.
4. Choose the group you want articles posted to, if you administer more than one.
5. You are returned to Goji with the group connected.

Publishing begins with the next article your rules pick up. Nothing already published is posted retroactively, which keeps a new connection from filling the group with a back catalogue on its first day.

What a topic looks like

Each topic carries the article's picture where there is one, the headline as the opening line, a trimmed summary, and the link. OK builds its own preview from the link, so the picture and description your site publishes in its meta tags matter here — if a preview looks wrong, the fix is on your site rather than in the post.

Articles with no picture still publish and simply appear as text with a link. They work, but they are scrolled past far more often in a feed built around images.

If something goes wrong

• No groups are offered. The account you signed in with does not administer a group, or you signed in with a different account than the one holding that role.
• Posting stopped after working. Access was revoked in your OK account settings, or your administrator role in the group was removed. Reconnect the channel.
• Topics appear without a picture. The article had no featured image, or your site does not publish an Open Graph image for it.
• A post was rejected. OK applies its own content rules to groups, and repeated identical posts can be throttled.

Common questions

Can it post to my personal OK page? No. Publishing is to groups only.

Can I connect more than one group? Yes. Connect the channel again and choose the other group.

Will members see that a tool posted it? No. Topics appear as normal group posts.

What happens if I disconnect? Future articles stop being posted. Everything already published stays in the group.
